About Sit. Stay. Heal.
Contributions to this fund will go directly to supporting the "Sit. Stay. Heal." project.
The City of Phoenix, Community Bridges, Midwestern University, and Hunkapi Programs have collaborated efforts and focus to offer a one of a kind solution to members of our community who are struggling with homelessness and seeking assistance. On May 1, 2021 Hunkapi will open its doors to 12-15 dogs while their owners choose to get away from sleeping on the streets and move into more permanent housing. The Sit. Stay. Heal. program will be the first collaborative effort in the country to offer this solution to their city’s homeless and their pets.
With the guidance and support of Midwestern University Veterinary Shelter team, Hunkapi is transitioning an unused horse barn into a transition shelter for 12-15 dogs who’s owners are homeless and seeking services through Community Bridges. The dogs will be under the care of a team of vets from MidWestern University, a woof pack manager for Hunkapi, and community volunteers. Dogs will stay at Hunkapi Farms for 12-16 weeks as their owners heal and find more permanent shelter for themselves and their four legged dogs. This project has been largely funded by the Phoenix Suns Charities and supplemented through other private donors and valley companies.
We are seeking additional support in order to increase our care capacity for the animals while they are in our care. The project needs an additional $40K in funding in order to cover the necessary renovations in order to keep the pups cool, comfortable, loved and healthy during their stay at Hunkapi Farms.
